Hello and Welcome to Middle School Science!

My name is Ethan Douglas, and I'll be your Middle School Science teacher for this academic year.

This is my 2nd year at NTxCA! I enjoy creating interactive and stimulating lessons that make science fun and meaningful for my students.

We are going to have a lot of fun together!

What we are learning in each class!

5th grade- Classifying matter based on measurable, testable, and observable physical properties, including mass, magnetism, physical state (solid, liquid, and gas), relative density (sinking and floating using water as a reference point), solubility in water, and the ability to conduct or insulate thermal energy or electric energy.

6th grade- Knowing that an element is a pure substance represented by a chemical symbol and that a compound is a pure substance represented by a chemical formula. Be able to Identify the formation of a new substance by using the evidence of a possible chemical change such as production of a gas, change in temperature, production of a precipitate, or color change.

7th grade- will be able to Differentiate between structure and function in plant and animal cell organelles, including cell membrane, cell wall, nucleus, cytoplasm, mitochondrion, chloroplast, and vacuole. Recognize the components of cell theory

8th grade- will be able to describe the structure of atoms, including the masses, electrical charges, and locations, of protons and neutrons in the nucleus and electrons in the electron cloud.
