Dear Parent or Guardian:
Texas law now requires school districts to distribute information to parents and guardians about the safe storage of firearms. The attached information will help you learn about options for, as well as how to talk to your child and others about, the safe storage of firearms.
It is unlawful to store, transport, or abandon an unsecured firearm in a place where children are likely to be and can obtain access to the firearm. Under Texas Penal Code 46.13, a person commits the offense of making a firearm accessible to a child if the child gains access to a readily dischargeable firearm, and the person with criminal negligence:
• Failed to secure the firearm; or
• Left the firearm in a place to which the person knew or should have known the child would gain access
The penalty for allowing a child access to a firearm can range from a Class C misdemeanor (punishable by a $500 fine) to a Class A misdemeanor (punishable by a $4000 fine, a year in jail, or a combination of the two).
Texas exempts the purchase of firearm safety equipment from Texas Sales and Use Tax.
Remember, a gun should be stored unloaded in a safe or locked container, with ammunition stored elsewhere. You can learn more and find additional resources from the Texas Department of Public Safety at https://safegunstoragetexas.com.

It's Grocery Day! Pantries at all 3 campuses are open today 2:00-4:00pm to serve currently-enrolled families. Shopping bags are provided. No outside bags or boxes. Please honor the bag limit per household so that all families in-need are served.
STUDENT CLIMATE SURVEY: It is time for our 3rd - 8th grade students to express their voice by taking our annual climate survey. We will use the results from the survey to better serve our families. We will send home a consent form on Tuesday, along with the Progress Reports, for you to sign and return. Your signature gives your permission for your child to take the survey anonymously. The survey’s link is also included on the paperwork for you to review the survey if you desire. Please return the consent form by Friday, October 17. Please know that your child will not be able to participate in the survey without your signed consent.

We are excited to introduce a new tool to help ensure your child’s safety when riding the bus. Our district will now be using the Bus Zone app, which allows you to receive notifications when your student gets on the bus.
Today, all bus riders will bring home a letter that includes:
Your child’s Student ID number and their name
Step-by-step instructions to download and set up the Bus Zone app
Directions to add your student(s) to your account
Please take a few moments to download the app and follow the instructions so you can begin receiving notifications right away.
We hope this new feature provides added peace of mind as your child travels to and from school. Thank you for your support in helping us keep our students safe.
