Good evening North Texas Collegiate Academy parents, this is Mr. Dix, Principal of East Campus. I have our weekly announcements. Our character trait of the the week is KINDNESS! Congratulations to our campus Spelling Bee winners! 1st: Gavin West (7th) 2nd: Rachel Hill (8th) 3rd: Alayna Valderas (7th) 4th: Makayla Velasquez (5th) I am so proud of each of them, as well as the rest of our 4th - 8th graders that did not place. These students will compete in our District Spelling Bee which is Thursday, January 19 at 9:00 am at our North Campus. Mark your calendars for our district basketball tournament, which will take place on Saturday, January 28th, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. It will be held at the MLK Jr. Recreation Center at 1300 Wilson Street, Denton, Texas 76207. Please come out to cheer on our Bulldog basketball players! We are looking forward to seeing all of you there! I want to remind all parents that daily attendance at school is critical. Please make sure your student is at school every day on time to avoid truancy. NTxCA follows all Denton County attendance guidelines. If your child has unexcused absences, you will receive an Attendance/Truancy Warning letter that includes a scheduled time for you to meet with the principal. This meeting is mandatory, and we will review interventions for improvement in attendance. Don't forget, we are continuing our attendance competition so please be sure to get your student to school on time every day so that they have a chance of winning some cool prizes, and more importantly so that they will not miss any learning. And remember, NTxCA is more than a school! Thank you and have a fantastic Bulldog week! #MoreThanASchool

As of this week, the East Campus staff has been divided into houses made up of members throughout the campus. It is a great opportunity to create a sense of community among staff members that don't normally work together. We did a scavenger hunt, and the Beta House won! The staff members had a blast! Thank you Onjaleke Brown, Superintendent/Principal of St. Anthony Academy in Dallas, for the wonderful idea and model to follow!

Congratulations to Ms. Cooper for receiving the Reteaching Like a Champion Award; and congratulations to Mrs Schmeltz for receiving the Child Advocacy Award! I am proud of both of these teachers and there's nobody more deserving to receive these awards for this 6 weeks! Ms. Cooper embraces reteaching as an integral part of the student learning process and as a result has brought most of her students to double digit growth! She consistently helps each student to achieve mastery. Mrs. Schmeltz has put herself aside countless times to be a major help and an encouragement to our students. In fact, one student had an emergency and needed to go to the hospital and she hopped right on the ambulance because she wanted to make sure that the student had somebody he knew that cared about him to be with him, even though this student is not in her class! I am truly blessed to serve with these ladies!

We apologize for any inconvenience, but families will be limited to 1 bag of groceries per household this week. We did not receive any produce, meat, dairy or bread but we're happy to help with canned goods and shelf-stable items. We expect a full delivery on December 28th and promise to be open to serve your families that afternoon. Many thanks to LOVE PACS for donating over 750 boxes of food this week!
